Who will win Big Bash 2021 - 2022?

Big Bash League has been extremely competitive and in the past nine seasons, we have seen six different winners. While there are sides that have dominated, it is an uphill challenge to pick who will win the Big Bash League right before the start of the tournament. However, it is worth looking back at the performances of the teams in the league’s history. Here’s how the teams have performed so far –

# Sydney Sixers

Sydney SixersThe defending champions were brilliant last season topping the points table and playing great cricket throughout to win their third title and second in a row. Moises Henriques would look to start from where his side left and aim for a new record of three consecutive title wins. They have a very powerful bunch of players in Sean Abbott, Carlos Brathwaite, Dan Christian, Tom Curran, Daniel Hughes, James Vince, and Steve O’Keefe and shall start favourites this season as well.

# Perth Scorchers

Perth ScorchersIt was so near yet so far scenario for the side in the last edition where they went down in the final against the Sixers. They have won the title thrice earlier in 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2016-17 sharing the honours with the Sixers for maximum title wins. The side is yet to announce its captain for the side with Ashton Turner not likely to lead it anymore. They have a talented squad with Cameron Bancroft, Mitchell Marsh, Andrew Tye, Jhye Richardson, and Colin Munro and a good show would be expected from these players.

# Melbourne Stars

Melbourne StarsThey are the most consistent side to have never won the title finishing runner-up twice and in the Top 4 on five occasions. Glenn Maxwell who leads the side from the front would be looking to get over this jinx and hope to find good support from other players in the squad. The team boasts of several T20 specialists in the squad including the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Beau Webster, Seb Gotch, Clint Hinchliffe, and Liam Hatcher

# Sydney Thunder

Sydney ThunderThey have made it to the playoffs in the last two seasons but failed to deliver when it mattered the most. The side won the title back in 2015-16 and shall look to add one more jewel to the crown in this edition. In Usman Khawaja, they have a natural leader out there marshalling his troops. The likes of Ben Cutting, Chris Green, BDaniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, Chris Tremain, and Alex Hales would have to play important roles for the side to win here.

# Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide StrikersThe side had an ordinary season in the previous edition finishing 5th. They suffered from the problem of inconsistency throughout the season, and this is something the side would like to work on in this edition. Travis Head will have to lead from the front which he failed to do in the last edition. The likes of Wes Agar, Alex Carey, Matthew Renshaw, and Peter Siddle would need to produce consistent performances for the side to win this season.

# Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart HurricanesThey had a pretty ordinary season in the last edition finishing 6th on the points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs first time in three seasons. The side never recovered from the poor start and skipper Matthew Wade would hope for a better performance from his side in this edition. They have a star-studded line-up that includes the likes of Peter Handscomb, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, and D’Arcy Short.

# Brisbane Heat

Brisbane HeatSince their title win in 2012-13, the side has been on a downhill ride. The side finished 4th last season and has been playing ordinary cricket over the last few editions. Jimmy Peirson the young skipper would be aiming for a turnaround and shall look for a good start. He would like to see good support from Chris Lynn, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Ben Duckett, and Tom Abell.

# Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne RenegadesIt has been a disastrous show by the side in the last two seasons where they have finished at the bottom of the points table. They won just four games last season and skipper Aaron Finch would like to pull his team out of the bottom this season. The side has good talent on its side with players like Marcus Harris, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson Kane Richardson, Will Sutherland, and Nic Maddinson. They would need to play well as a unit and deliver results.

Will the new rules affect our Big Bash predictions?

The organizers of the Big Bash League had introduced 3 new rules for the 2020-21 season. Let’s take a look at what these rules are what do they mean for our Big Bash predictions –

Power Surge

In a typical T20 game, the power-play is for the first 6 overs of the innings. However, this Big Bash season, the power-play restrictions will be on just for the first 4 overs. Later, in the 11th over of the innings, the batting team can take another 2-overs power-play, called the Power Surge.

Now, many fans have called the new rules a gimmick rather than having any strategic significance in the match. We believe the Power Surge gives an opportunity for the batting side to speed up the run rate. However, it is to be seen whether teams can build a strategy around this rule and if and when they do so, we shall analyze the possibilities in our predictions for BBL matches.

X-Factor Player

This rule, of all, has attracted the most criticism and ridicule given the ironic nature of it. You must have heard and witnessed the mid-game substitution in a Football match. BBL 10 aims to bring the same to T20 cricket.

Before the match starts, each team must mention their 12th and 13th name. Teams can then bring in either of these two to replace another player from the playing XI after 10 overs in the 1st innings. The player being replaced must have not bowled more than one over or is yet to bat.

You can find our best picks for the 12th and 13th names of a team in our predictions for Big Bash League matches. On the surface, this rule may seem strange, but as the season progresses, we may see teams increasingly making it a part of their strategies.

Bash Boost

This rule may have possibly the biggest impact on the teams’ approach to batting. According to Bash Boost, the batting team will receive a bonus point if their 10-overs score is higher than that of their opposition. And if they’re trailing behind the opposition’s equivalent 10-overs score, the bonus point will be awarded to the fielding team.

If a team decides to go for the bonus point rather than focusing on the end result of the match, a lot can change. Trying to score higher than the opposition in the first 10 overs could result in the batting team losing more wickets which would eventually affect their chase and possibly the match result. This is more likely to happen when the race to the playoffs gets stiff.

At BettingTop10 India, we always aim to bring the best of sports betting to our readers. If these rules bring in newer betting markets, for example, markets around performances or selection of the X-Factor player, total runs in the Power Surge, team to win the Bash Boost, etc., you will definitely find them in our Big Bash betting tips.

Big Bash Schedule

61 T20 games would be played during the season where all the eight teams would engage in a double round-robin league format followed by the playoffs and final. The schedule is as follows –
