Indian Premier League 2022 Prediction

IPL 2019 Predictions Betting Tips

The auctions are done, and the countdown has started for the biggest T20 league in the world. We have already seen three franchise leagues this year including the Big Bash League. However, IPL is in a league of its own. While the tournament makes headlines for the big bucks spent it is also the most competitive T20 League involving the best players from different parts of the globe coming it for the carnival. Competitive cricket, brand value, fan following, and participation of the biggest T20 stars; IPL is miles ahead of any other franchise league in the world. It is valued at more than $6 billion making it one of the biggest sporting extravaganzas on the calendar.

The 15th edition of the IPL was highly competitive despite the Covid wave which forced the tournament to be suspended midway. We saw the Chennai Super Kings emerge as the winners and saw several records being made. The tournament has expanded for this season, and we have two more franchises coming in the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants. The teams are already busy with the preparations, and they would like to see their players deliver the best.

Top Buys at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction

Altogether 204 players were sold at the mega auction out of the 590 players. There were many surprises during the auction and more so with the players who remained unsold. Suresh Raina who is the fourth-highest run-getter in the history of the tournament remained unsold. The same was the case with Amit Mishra, the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL. He wasn’t alone as big names including World Cup-winning Aussie trio of Aaron Finch, Steven Smith and Adam Zampa also didn’t find any takers. Shakib Al Hasan, Imran Tahir, Eoin Morgan, and David Miller too went unsold. Let us look at the biggest buys of the season

Ishan Kishan (Mumbai Indians) ₹15.25 crore

Ishan Kishan had an ordinary season last year with Mumbai Indians but had done well in their title wins in 2019 and 2020. It wasn’t surprising that Mumbai opened its purse to get him back into the side. Sunrisers Hyderabad wanted him desperately and this resulted in an intense bidding war which the Mumbai Indians eventually won.

Deepak Chahar (Chennai Super Kings) – ₹ 14 Crores

CSK had released him before the auction and aggressively bid for him at the auction. In an intense bidding war that saw Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad give CSK some scares, the defending champions eventually brought Chahar back. He had a good season last year and shall be the backbone of this attack along with Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja.

Shreyas Iyer – (Kolkata Knight Riders) ₹ 12.25 Crores

The one thing that KKR desperately needed was a skipper. Eoin Morgan was a failure last season both as skipper and player and so was Dinesh Karthik who had captained the side in the previous few seasons. His former franchise was desperate to keep him, but KKR spent big on him. It makes sense as Iyer has proved his worth both as a steady batsman and an inspiring leader.

Wanindu Hasaranga (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – ₹ 10.75 Crores

The Sri Lankan spinner played just two games last season for RCB and the franchise going after him aggressively raised a few eyebrows. With Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad also wanting to rope him in, Hasaranga saw his value going up as he was eventually picked up for more than 10 times his base price that too in a season where likes of Imran Tahir and Adam Zampa went unsold.

Nicholas Pooran (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – ₹ 10.75 Crores

86 runs is all that the left-hander from West Indies had scored last season for Punjab Kings. But Sunrisers Hyderabad went after him aggressively and outbid Punjab Kings. This was a need for the side after they had failed to secure Ishan Kishan. Pooran would have to get into the power-hitting role for the franchise after they had an ugly divorce with David Warner.

What Are The IPL Cricket Predictions for 2022?

The Indian Premier League has seen tough competition over the years and fortunes changing for the sides every season. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings had finished 7th in the previous season. With two new teams in the fray, the competition is expected to be more exciting. However, the composition of the sides and their past performances do give us some clues. For our 2022 IPL cricket prediction let us look at how the sides have fared over the years in this tournament –

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians IPL 2021Rohit Sharma’s side couldn’t get its acts together in the last season and finished 5th. They have won the title thrice in the last five editions and have one of the strongest squads for the season. The side didn’t experiment much at the auction buying back most of their players from the last edition. South Africa uncapped all-rounder Dewald Brevis has been a surprise pick and he would have an important role with the Panday brothers no longer playing for Mumbai Indians. They would be one of the sides to watch out for this year.

MI IPL 2022 Squad – Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Dewald Brevis, Murugan Ashwin, Basil Thampi, Tilak Varma, Sanjay Yadav, Daniel Sams, Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Mohd. Arshad Khan, Anmolpreet Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Rahul Buddhi, Hrithik Shokeen, Arjun Tendulkar, Aryan Juyal, Fabian Allen, Suryakumar Yadav

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals IPL 2021They have been the most consistent side in the last three seasons and finished 3rd last year. Rishabh Pant who likes to lead from the front shall aim to end the drought and win the first title for the franchise. They bid aggressively for David Warner and Mitchell Marsh at the auction and these World Cup-winning players would boost the side’s batting strength. Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman are also good buys given the experience of both these players. It will be interesting to see if the side goes the distance in this edition and has its name on the trophy.

DC IPL 2022 Squad – Rishabh Pant (c), Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Anrich Nortje, David Warner, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Srikar Bharat, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Mandeep Singh, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ashwin Hebbar, Sarfaraz Khan, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, Pravin Dubey, Lungisani Ngidi, Tim Seifert, Vicky Ostwal

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings IPL 2021From the downfall in 2020 to winning the title last year, MS Dhoni’s side made a massive turnaround. The franchise is known for being consistent with its players and has some of them from the first season back in 2008! They spent most of their purse at the auction retaining the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, and Robin Uthappa. Most of the players have played together in the team and know each other’s game well. The side would like to leverage this and aim for a record 5th title.

CSK IPL 2022 Squad – MS Dhoni (c), Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo, Shivam Dube, Robin Uthappa, Tushar Deshpande, KM Asif, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Simarjeet Singh, Devon Conway, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Subhranshu Senapati, Mukesh Choudhary, Prashant Solanki, C Hari Nishaanth, N Jagadeesan, Chris Jordan, K Bhagath Varma

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2021They enjoy a crazy fan following, have one of the best batting line-ups, and yet the side is yet to win the title. Virat Kohli won’t be captaining the side for the season and AB de Villiers too has hung his boots. Faf du Plessis was perhaps a strategic buy for the side at the auction to fill in the leadership role. They have also got in Harsal Patel. The side is strong on paper with the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Mohammad Siraj in the squad. It remains to be seen if they can go the distance.

RCB IPL 2022 Squad – Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Faf du Plessis, Mohammed Siraj, Dinesh Karthik, Anuj Rawat, Shahbaz Ahmed, Akash Deep, Mahipal Lomror, Finn Allen, Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Behrendorff, Suyash Prabhudessai, Chama Milind, Aneeshwar Gautam, Karn Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, Luvnith Sisodia, David Willey

Punjab Kings

Punjab KingsFormerly Kings XI Punjab, the name change didn’t change the fortunes of the side last season. They finished 6th on the points table, a position they have held for the last three seasons! They have gone in for massive changes for the season and released former skipper KL Rahul. Interestingly Mayank Agarwal who has been among their best players in the last couple of seasons has been retained and it is expected he would be leading the side. The side spent big bucks at the auction for Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rahul Chahar. Bowling has been a weak area for the side, and this is something they would love to improve on during the season.

PBKS IPL 2022 Squad – Mayank Agarwal, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada, Shahrukh Khan, Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Odean Smith, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Ishan Porel, Jitesh Sharma, Raj Angad Bawa, Rishi Dhawan, Prerak Mankad, Vaibhav Arora, Writtick Chatterjee, Baltej Dhanda, Ansh Patel, Nathan Ellis, Atharva Taide, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Benny Howell

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2021The Knight Riders surprised everyone to reach the finals last season after a poor start but went down against Chennai in a one-sided title decider. Since their title wins in 2012 and 2014 the side hasn’t been the same. They have struggled to find a good leader and Shreyas Iyer would have big responsibilities on his shoulders. They also bought back Pat Cummins and Nitish Rana at the auction. Sam Billings, Alex Hales, and Tim Southee are the big names the side has roped in and Iyer would look to take the side a step further than it did in the last edition.

KKR IPL 2022 Squad – Shreyas Iyer (c), Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi, Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane, Sheldon Jackson, Anukul Roy, Rasikh Dar, Baba Indrajith, Chamika Karunaratne, Abhijeet Tomar, Pratham Singh, Ashok Sharma, Sam Billings, Alex Hales, Tim Southee, Ramesh Kumar, Mohammad Nabi, Umesh Yadav, Aman Khan

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals IPL 2021They nailed it at the auction making some of the smartest bids. It would be interesting to see if the same yields result for Sanju Sampson’s side. The last three years have seen them finish 7th and 8th on the points table. They aggressively bid for Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult to strengthen their bowling attack which has been an area of concern so far. Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, and Devdutt Padikkal add to the batting strength for the side. It remains to be seen if the Royals can recreate the magic of 2008 when they won the title.

RR IPL 2022 Squad – Sanju Samson, Prasidh Krishna, Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Trent Boult, Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Navdeep Saini, KC Cariappa, Obed Mccoy, Kuldeep Sen, Karun Nair, Dhruv Jurel, Tejas Baroka, Kuldip Yadav, Shubham Garhwal, James Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rassie Van Der Dussen, Daryl Mitchell

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2021They finished at the bottom of the points table last season. Along with their poor show last season, the infamous row with former skipper David Warner dominated the headlines. Skipper Kane Williamson who was retained by the side would be hopeful for a better show this year. The franchise did well at the auctions getting Nicholas Pooran in the side after an intense bidding war. Rahul Tripathi’s bid did raise some eyebrows, but the side has also got utility players like Washington Sundar, Aiden Markram, Romario Shepherd, and Marco Jansen which will make them a dark horse.

SRH IPL 2022 Squad – Kane Williamson (c), Nicholas Pooran, Washington Sundar, Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Abdul Samad, T Natarajan, Kartik Tyagi, Umran Malik, Aiden Markram, Shreyas Gopal, Priyam Garg, Jagadeesha Suchith, Romario Shepherd, Sean Abbott, R Samarth, Shashank Singh, Saurabh Dubey, Vishnu Vinod, Glenn Phillips, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Gujarat Titans

The Titans bring back IPL to Gujarat after the now-defunct Gujrat Lions had played the 2016 and 2017 editions of the tournament. Hardik Pandya would lead the side and it would be interesting to see how here fares in this role. Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill were picked by the side before the auctions. Their aggressive bid for Lockie Ferguson was interesting given the Kiwi’s ordinary record in the past. Jason Roy is a big name and so is Mohammad Shami who has been strategically picked by the side. They lack firepower at the top with Jason Roy’s availability throughout the season in doubt.

Gujarat Titans IPL 2022 Squad – Hardik Pandya (c), Rashid Khan, Lockie Ferguson, Rahul Tewatia, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Abhinav Manohar, Jason Roy, Jayant Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Dominic Drakes, Noor Ahmad, Darshan Nalkande, Yash Dayal, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, David Miller, Wriddhiman Saha, Matthew Wade, Gurkeerat Singh, Varun Aaron

Lucknow Super Giants

India’s most populous state finally has an IPL team and the Lucknow Super Giants have left no stone unturned to assemble a strong T20 squad. KL Rahul would lead the side and that is a smart move considering his performance over the last three seasons. They aggressively bid for Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, and Manish Pandey which adds good firepower to the side. Rahul has done well at an individual level, but he couldn’t change the fortunes of the Punjab Kings. It will be interesting to see if he can do something special with Super Giants in their debut season.

LSG IPL 2022 Squad – KL Rahul, Avesh Khan, Marcus Stoinis, Jason Holder, Krunal Pandya, Mark Wood, Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Manish Pandey, Ravi Bishnoi, Dushmantha Chameera, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ankit Rajpoot, Mohsin Khan, Ayush Badoni, Kyle Mayers, Karan Sharma, Evin Lewis, Mayank Yadav

Teams to Watch Out for in IPL 2022

Top 3 Contenders

Chennai Super Kings

They are the most consistent side in the history of the tournament and for good reasons. MS Dhoni add X-factor to the side, and he proved it last year after the debacle in 2020. They have a strong core with Dhoni, Darren Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, and Ravindra Jadeja. Devon Conway adds to the side’s batting strength. Dhoni is known for marshaling his troops well and has the smartest brain in this format of the game. They would be in the hunt for their 5th title which would be a new record for the tournament.

Delhi Capitals

If there is one takeaway from the last three seasons it is Delhi Capitals’ strength. It is another story that they haven’t won a title in the last three years even though they have shown great consistency. Rishabh Pant is an interesting character leading the side and just the opposite to what MS Dhoni is for Chennai. He is flamboyant and leads from the front. Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje make it a very strong bowling unit. Having roped in David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Mustafizur Rahman, the side packs punch and expected to go the distance.

Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma and his boys would like to put behind last season’s horrors. They are the most powerful side in the tournament and have shown their dominance in the last five seasons. Sharma along with Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard forms a strong core for the team. Ishan Kishan and Daniel Sams also add to the side’s strength. Their only weakness is in the spin bowling attack and Sharma would want his batsmen to compensate for this with their good hitting abilities in this season and bag their third title in the last four seasons.

Dark Horse

Kolkata Knight Riders

Not much is expected from KKR after their string of failures over the last five seasons. Their entry into the final last year was more of a surprise than anything else in the tournament. But Shreyas Iyer being put in charge of the side changes the equation completely. He turned around the Delhi Capitals with his calm head and shall aim to do the same here. Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine are great players in this format of the game and they would look to take the side to its third title win.
