Who will win Sheffield Shield 2021-22?

It is a fresh season, and all the teams would have worked on their plans. Several players would be making their debuts and build their names. Some of the biggest stars in the Australian domestic circuit would be eager to put their skills to good use and earn a victory for the side. It can be difficult to pick a winner for the season at the moment. Here we look back at the performance of the sides in the last edition of the tournament which shall offer us some insights into their strengths and weaknesses.

# Queensland Bulls

Usman Khawaja’s side put up a dominating performance last season winning their 9th title. The side started well and kept up its performance right through the season and keeping their best for the final where they defeated New South Wales by an innings and 33 runs. Most of their players had done well in the previous edition and the side would surely like to begin from where it had left earlier this year.

# New South Wales Blues

New South Wales BluesIt was a poor show in the final that denied Peter Nevill’s side its 48th title last season. They looked good but had a poor outing in the final. Australia’s national side has a busy calendar ahead and many of their top players won’t be available for selection. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters fare this year. The side has a strong bowling attack and it will have to win them the title.

# Victoria

VictoriaPeter Handscomb’s side finished 5th last season, their worst performance in the last 10 years and the skipper would be looking for a better performance from his players this season. They have been the second most successful team in this competition with 32 title wins and the side would aim for its 33rd title this season.  The side has a strong batting line-up and a good show would be expected from their bowlers this year

# Tasmanian Tigers

Tasmanian tigersTim Paine’s side has finished 4th in the last two seasons and the Aussie skipper would look forward to a better show from his players this season. Since 2012-13 when they won their last title, the side has often been found wanting in crucial games. They have a good bunch of experienced players who have shared the dressing room for the last few years and Paine would like to use this experience and take them to their 4th title win.

# Western Australia Warriors

WarriorsShaun Marsh’s side did well to finish third on the points table last season but the endless wait for a title continues. It has been 21 years since the side won the title last time in the 1998-99 season. The side has a strong group of players, and they are likely to be available for most of the season. The Warriors would be one of the teams to watch out this year after the impressive performances they put up in the last edition.

# South Australia Redbacks

RedbacksTravis Head’s side has finished at the bottom of the points table for the last four seasons and there has hardly been anything for the side to celebrate. They failed to win a single game in the last edition and need to get over that. A few generations of South Australian cricketers haven’t been a part of a title-winning team with their last win coming back in 1995-96. Their immediate challenge would be to avoid a poor start that has plagued them in the last four years.
