The last edition of the TNPL was played back in 2019 as the pandemic forced the abandonment of the 2020 edition. The 2021 edition which was due to start in the month of May had to be postponed due to the surge of cases in Indian. Lot has changed since the last edition, and we have seen several players being released and young blood added to the squads earlier this year. Three new franchises would be part of this edition. It is a difficult choice to pick a favourite for the season but here we look back at the performances and composition of the eight sides. # Chepauk Super Gillies |They are the reigning champions and the most successful team in the tournament with two title wins. The side starts as one of the favourites in the tournament which has a few of the biggest stars in Tamil Nadu cricket including the likes of captain Kaushik Gandhi, B Arun, Narayan Jagadeesan and Jaganath Srinivas. # Dindigul Dragons |They have finished runners-up in the last two seasons and shall look to rising one step ahead this year. The side would miss its regular skipper Ravichandran Ashwin who is with the national side at the moment but do have a strong squad that includes the likes of S Arun, L Vignesh and R Srinivasan # Lyca Kovai Kings | It was a poor tournament for the side in 2019 where they stood 5th on the points table. Sharukh Khan’s side does have several promising players in the squad including J Gowjith Subash, U Mukilesh and Thangarasu Natarajan. They have a good balance to go the distance in the tournament. #Salem Spartans |It will be a debut season for the side and there would be high hopes on them being led by Indian star Vijay Shankar. The side has big games amongst its ranks, and this includes the likes of Murugan Ashwin, Washington Sundar and Akshay V Srinivasan. They will be one of the teams to watch out for in the tournament. #IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans |They are a new franchise and haven’t announced their skipper for the season yet. The team. The team would draw inspiration from the presence of Dinesh Karthik in the squad. They also boast of having few other upcoming stars in the form of S Aravind, K Gowtham Thamarai and C Shriram. #Nellai Royal Kings |They are another side debuting this season and shall be led by Baba Aparajith. The side has roped in young blood, and they would look for a crowning jewel this season. They have big names in the side including Abhinav Mukund, Pradosh Ranjan Paul and T Ajith Kumar. # Ruby Trichy Warriors |They had finished 7th last season and have never made it beyond the group stages in the tournament. The side would aim to break this poor record. Sai Kishore would lead the side this season and they have a young and determined bunch of players that include Aditya Ganesh, Muhammed Adnan Khan and Murli Vijay. # Madurai Panthers |They had won the title back in 2018 and finished third last season. Arun Karthik would lead the side this season and aim for their second title. The side would see IPL star Varun Chakravarthy in the squad and consider its prospects for the rest of the season. Other players to watch out for the season include NS Chaturvedi and R Mithun.
